Where
do we ride?
The Sri Lanka Riding Holidays offer riding itineraries from single day
rides to 15 day rides, exploring the rural locations of Kandalama,
Sigiriya, Nuwara Eliya, Tissamaharama and the beaches of Kalpitiya and
Bentota.
One of the most beautiful coastal areas of Sri Lanka the Kalpitiya route
span the length of the Puttalam lagoon with the horses and riders
trekking the thin strip of land between the lagoon and the vast Indian
Ocean. The ride moves on sloping sand dunes alongside fisher villages
offering a unique glimpse at the lives of the people of this region.
Kandalama offers something for every type of rider. From quiet treks in
the wilderness to gallops alongside the banks of the Kandalama Lake, the
riders journey to discover the history, culture and the natural beauty
of this region.
Sigiriya still echoes with the whispers of a significant past. The home
of the Lion fortress is the final destination of the riding routes that
trek in a landscape of jungles, rural villages and vegetable
plantations.
High in the mountains, dramatically framed by a landscape of tea
plantations the town of Nuwara Eliya is the home to the Nuwara Eliya
Race Course. These routes wind through tea estates, vegetable
plantations and alongside the villages of the people who call this
quaint town home.
The ancient capital of Tissamaharama is a favourite destination. A meld
of history, culture and wildlife - the routes travel through village
footpaths, banana and vegetable plantations to the ancient Tissamaharama
Weva and Lunugamvehera. This region is rich with wildlife and exotic
endemic and migratory birds who visit the riding routes.
The golden sands of southern Sri Lanka glisten in welcome to riders as
they ride through a spray of surf and sand. Bentota (temporarily
inactive) beaches stretch long and wide welcoming the freedom of a good
gallop on sweeping landscapes of coconut trees, warm sand and surging
surf.
